IFCPME Statement on the Gaza Flotilla Massacre May 31, 2010

Today, we have witnessed the killing of 10 unarmed peace activists aboard a ship, in international waters, carrying humanitarian aid, by Israeli soldiers.

This is the latest tactic used to continue the suffocation of the people of Gaza; who have been under a severe blockade of basic humanitarian supplies, including, food, medical supplies and even water. The world is watching the slow starvation of the Palestinian people. The people of the Flotilla chose to do something about these crimes. They stood up and said "no more".

More than 600 people set out to feed and bring medical aid to the Palestinians. Yet, they were met in International waters by Israeli Commandos who boarded the ship and began attacking those onboard. Killing and wounding approximately 70 people, from different nations around the world. We encourage the United States to stop funding this terror. Our tax dollars should not be used to promote violence against any peoples.

The Interfaith Council strongly condemns todays' actions and sends condolences to those who have lost their lives and those who are wounded. The heroism, courage and integrity of the members of the Flotilla are unmatched. Thank you for being willing to stand up and do what is right.
